Hi

Wondered if anyone has any advice- I have changed plugs, oil and fuel filters.

Car originally started mis- firing and 'chugging' from cold start 1st thing 1 morning. Engine management light came on and engine cut out- re-started but no change- as a result changed the crank sensor and for a couple of months all seemed OK.

However have had a couple of instances where symptoms have returned, but not so extreme- mis-firing from cold- car really shakes, but after 5 mins max it stops and is OK for the rest of the day- even if left for several hours, but Xmas morning it came back with a vengeance and again after 5 mins max all seemed ok, but this time the engine management light stayed on until today- it went off after I started the car to come home from work.

Has anyone any ideas?

Cheers Question

however today th e engine

Have now noticed that car seems to have slight rough idle- all the above seems to happen when car is on auto choke

Cars haven't had chokes for nearly 20 years. So it only does it from cold? Is it worse when the weather is colder?

Same thing happened with my 2001 GTi 138. I changed the coilpack as recommend and all was well afterwards

Mine did the same thing always spluttered fir about 100 yards then ran fine. Was worse in colkd weather. Mine happened as soon as I fitted the Longman head. The fix in the end was to fit some new hydraulic lifters.
