hi all i own a 206 gti 180 2003 with 56k and ive recently changed the cambelt only to find that it has started to misfire, the anti polution light was also on. i then stripped cambelt back off to make sure the timing was done correctly which it has been.
PLEASE NOTE there is no way it could of bent any of the valves as the timing was check by hand first lol
iv checked everything is plugged in correctly and started it again today only for it to continue misifiring, and then after around 2-3 mins on idle it started to search too, and now all the lights have come up on the dash.
any advice or help would be very much appreciated thanks

There is a black sensor (think it's called a idle control valve) on the throttle body You can see it threw the inlet manifold make sure that is connected and even clean it as this could cause an antipollution fault as it did on my 180. Also try checking the lamba sensors are connected and are working. If it wasn't doing it before most likely something not been connected up properly. The only other thing u can do is get it on a fault code reader.

Did you use all the correct locking tools when you replaced the cambelt?

There's no idle control valve on the 180. As it's a electronic throttle the ECU use the throttle butterfly to control the revs so no ICV is needed.

Just out of interest how did you lock the inlet cam (or more accurately the inlet pulley)?

FAAAAAIIIIL
they make the special pins for a reason why do so many people think they are not needed we spend thousands of pounds on timing kits at work so the job can be done properly there is a reason for that
engines like the tu 8 valve you can get away with it engines like the 180 with floating crank pulleys and vvt you are asking for a disaster
look at what edward has said it sounds like thats whats causing the problem best off taking it to a dealer and getting them to sort it properly lukcy you havnt done more damage to be honest

even if you have locked the top the bottom will be out as it has a floating crank!
ive never done a 180 cambelt but my brother has done loads at work and it still takes him 4 hours or so
if you havnt locked it using the correct tools your timing will be out i can garentee it and unless you get the proper tool you will never time it right at all
