This all started over a month ago when the road service guy was called to look at a fault light on the dash(Anti-pollution fault). He disconnected the battery, joined both wires(+ve &-ve) together then back on the battery. I was quite shocked. He then started it and of course the fault light was still there. Ever since, when starting first thing in the morning, the car would crank but not fire. On the second attemp, an audiable "dong" sound can be heard and then it starts. In the day time it starts no problem, even when left for several hours. I checked battery voltage which read 12.45V. The weather here has been very warm(22 at night up to 35 in the day). Would the battery be on the way out or has the service guy damaged the BSI?

Hi,

Sounds like it could be the battery. I had a similar issue except sometimes the airbag lighs would stay on. Checking the voltage alone does not prove that the battery is good. My old battery was showing 13v with a meter but when I took it to the garage they checked the specific gravity of the fluid in each cell and it showd that 1 cell was faulty. A new battery solved the problem and all is fine now. Hope this helps.

When your battery is about to die, you´ll have plenty of fault messages (plexed cars) such as Airbag Fault, ABS Fault or Anti-Pollution Fault, suddenly when you try to start your car your gauges will go like mad and the car will be dead. Check with a new battery.

Best Regards
