Hello guys, Im having the dreaded anti pollution fault pop up on my 2004 206 gti 180. Error message pops up and then it decides to go into limp home mode.

I purchased a recommended error code reader, plugged it in, checked the code and erased it. error code came back within 15 minutes of normal driving.

so decided to rip the TB off, pull the MAP sensor out, and give it a clean with some contact cleaner, put it back together, cleared the code, took it for a drive and bang, anti pollution fault again aswel as the error code.

Im getting one error code P1160

Also if i had an intake leak.re sucking air in its not supposed to would that throw the error up. the tb gasket looked abit mashed but didnt make the car hold revs high or anything like that.

if anyone has any ideas what i should look for next please help me Smile

yep have read that thread already.

replaced map sensor today, fresh TB gasket, reset bsi and still same issue. checked the gearbox earth to chassis and to battery all are spotless battery is less than 6 months old from bosch.

its weird because it will only go into limp mode, when the car is physically moving. if it just idles there or if i rev it up its fine when stationary, but as soon as the car starts to move it throws a wobbly.

Unplug the engine ecu connectors & check for contamination / corrosion on the multipin connectors.

checked and inspected - there dry and spotless.

Just took it for another drive and now i have a second code

p1160 and p1161

These are both pointing to the Throttle body area. So i think the throttle body motor is at fault.

When your accelerating normally, the car starts to kangaroo/jerk as it goes through the revs at half throttle, then the fault pops up and it goes into limp mode.

It started to kangaroo a few weeks ago, and now its still doing it as well as bringing the 2 codes up so i think its finally had it.

Where can i get a new throttle body from? i don't really want a second hand one as there 60 quid and they could be faulty as well. rather buy a brand new one. Im guessing direct from peugeot....

Really needs access to Peugeot Planet to set it up after fitting.

Can be done another way - got it written down somewhere.

It's a good thing that you kept the thread updated till you fixed the problem,as many other members, they post the problem, and we try to help, but with no response from them, which makes the thread pointless.

anyway, glad you got it fixed, but if you want to the have the TB to work as it should, you need to clean it first, then you need to reset it,to adjust it's setting according to your engine condition, and the metering of air/fuel will be calibrated as well, which makes it drives better, and have a better MPG.

if there is not fault code stored in the ECU,then you need to take the throttle body out,and clean it,but you need to do it carefully, and don't push the butterfly with your fingers,so be gentle, let it dry,and find someone with a PP2000,who is close to you,so that you can do a calibration process, and everything will be fine,as these type of throttle bodies, need to be adjusted every few years,or depend on the miles you drive.

Out of interest Timon, (and apologies for the thread necromancy by the way!) why do you advise not moving the butterfly by hand when it's off the car?

The way I understand it it's just a PWM driven armature connected to the throttle shaft (and have got by cleaning similar TB's on other pugs opening them up in the past) so was wondering what trouble would it cause?

EDIT-: By the way, I now have my Diagbox (Lexia and PP2000 in one) back working so if anyone needs adaptives reset or a proper code-read (generic scanners will never pick up certain faults like cooling fan issues/ABS and the like) in the Cheshire area give me a shout and will arrange to have a look when I have time.
