So as some of you are aware I have had this oil pressure light issue for ages now. It is progressively getting worse. However with the changing symptoms I believe it could be electrical.
The car is booked in for diagnostics, batter alternator and oil pressure checks on sat at a Peugeot specialist.
I was discussing the issue with my neighbour and he said he would check my alternator and battery.
The readings were.
Battery without car started 12.5
Battery with car running 14.33
Battery with any electrical load applied such as ( brake pedal (lights), rear screen heater, lights, radio, ac, windows even) it dropped to just over 12
When the loads were applied (individually) as well as the reading dropping to 12. The revs drop the car fails to catch the revs and the oil light stop light etc flickers. The revs recover the light goes out.
What are your thoughts?
If it is agreed it could well be the alternator (I am still going to let the garage confirm) where is best to get it and which one? There are several on carparts4less. The top one is the Bosch for £160 ish.
Any and all advice appreciated.

Try a motor factors for an exchange alternator. If you can't take your old one in at the time, they add a surcharge and then refund you when you do take it in. Might find it cheaper that way.

If it's dropping that much just by turning 1 item on, yes. I think I can have lights, wipers, heater on before it drops below 12v.

Can you run this model without aux belt on? If you can charge the battery, remove aux belt and repeat the tests. If the idle is perfect that would give more support to the view that your alternator isn't working correctly.
However, it could be that your battery is failing and putting excess load on your alternator - if you have another good battery it might be worth trying a temporary battery swap (a few days should be long enough) before doing aux belt removal test or spending hundreds on an alternator.

Well you should have 14 volts no matter what,even if there is load,it will drop down for a sec. then back up for 14 volts....and I have to add that higher or lower voltage have the same effect of Peugeot cars in general,so try a new alternator,and see how thing goes.

Thank you for sharing your knowledge guys! I will let you know how things go. I am not going to rush into dn alternator. I will check and see what the Peugeot specialist finds too

I don't disagree that it sounds like an alternator fault but that is a lot of cash to spend without doing other tests first.
Were the voltage readings taken at idle or RPM lifted to between 1100 and 1300? Some (lots) of alternators even when working correctly won't cover loads at idle rpm and battery voltage drops.
Also, for small(ish) loads, the voltage should take a while to drop as the battery should have enough reserve capacity to cover the current draw for quite a long time. That is why I suggest you rule out the battery (also the cheaper item) first.

Thanks that's good advice.
Tests were idle and 1.5k rpm.
The voltage is dropping instantly and so do the revs. Knowing my luck it will be both the battery and alternator!

Money is on alternator!
Also check and clean all connections at both battery and alternator - a bad earth will do strange things!!!

Well battery and alternator both tested by AA last night when I broke down. Both 100%. Waiting in the garage diagnostics now.....

you have a strange problem then
if the alternator and battery are both good then I would say
belt or pully not tight enough
bad earth or a bad connection somewhere.

So the garage had the car in again this morning. They were going to update the BSI etc.
The car then went mad electrically. He re tested the alternator and experienced the same drop to 12v under load that I had.
He has quoted £260 to replace the alternator. Obviously I will do the job myself.
I have checked ECP / carparts4less and my local parts shop. I am looking at £95 to £165 depending on new v recon and brand etc.
As this will save me £100 at least this is what I will do.
So this is where the help is needed. ECP CP4L and the local shop all have several options with different specs based on my reg. how do I / we know which is the correct one? Is there anything on servicebox that would help?

Any pointers on what info is important? Not sure what I am looking for TBH.
