My new project. '52 GTi with 62k on the clock. Air filter done, getting an oil service this week. Also removed the spare wheel and bracket from under the rear to reduce weight and got rid of a slight squeaky noise! Exhaust system is next...

Your induction kit isn't going to be doing much sitting horizontally over the air box, if anything your be sucking in a lot more hot air.
Get a 90 degree bend on it and have it actually soaking up the colder air from inside the box. You're only losing power with the way it is now, in fact the only thing your gain from that is induction noise even when seated correctly.

One way to test the hot air theory is to get a code reader that provides live data, Compare before and after inlet air temperatures.

Cheers for the advice Vexs...have seen the 90 degree pipe so that could well be a job soon. Is it easy to take out the rest of the air box from the engine?
With regards to exhaust systems, any advice? I have had a look at the Sportex kits and they look well priced?? Going for the full system rather than just a back box.....

Work I have done so far:
Changed front seat belts (still OEM)
Oil change and new filter
Bosch spark plugs
New rear brake pads
Both wing mirrors changed (still OEM) as both had cracks in the bottom
Few minor bits cleaned up
Sportex race pipe and back box ordered...gets fitted in the next week.
Car has done 63k miles and not sure when the cam belt was last changed....should I get it changed just to be safe??

I would recommend getting the cambelt done. I believe the Peugeot recommended service interval is 80k or 10 years old for the cambelt (whatever comes first) but many advise having done around the 60k mark.
Entirely up to you really but a costly mistake if it does go now. If you have no history of it being done then get it done, especially as you are in the process of fixing her up, would be shame to see your hard work go to waste
Other than that it's coming along nicely mate.

Cheers Vexs. My mate runs a garage so I'll get him to do the cam belt while he is also putting on the new exhaust...heard real horror stories about cam belts breaking etc!

Vexs, quick question. You said in an earlier thread above to get a 90 degree bend on the air filter to get it soaking up cold air from the box...do you know where I can get one for without buying a whole new induction kit? Any help much appreciated!! Cheers...

If not just search on eBay for 90 degree bends with the correct diameter you need. Ideal if its a think rubber as you can get a nice air tight fit using jubilee clips :
Or if you want fancy pipework then Samco or Forge do some decent stuff, at a price of course.
