A friend of mine has a 51 plate Peugeot 206 and the 12V lighter socket is only live when the ignition is on.
I understand the logic behind this (so the battery is not drained by devices left plugged in accidentally) but we would like to be able to leave our phones charging locked inside the car at festivals this summer, so we need the socket to remain live at all times.
I understand that this can be done by changing a fuse (see thread below) but can anyone tell me how to configure this?

The fuses mentioned in the link are for a pre-plex. With your car being a 51 plate it could be pre-plex or multi-plex. If multi-plex it's fuse MF07 in the engine bay and F22 in the passenger compartment.
If your car is pre-plex it's simply a case of moving the fuse to give a constant 12v

Thanks macca1411 - it turns out that my friend's 51/2002 206 has a multi-plex loom.
We tried removing fuse F22 in the passenger compartment (and got no power to the 12V socket when the ignition is on or off) but there is no alternative position to move it to.
We then looked for fuse MF07 in the engine bay (next to the battery). None of the fuses are marked MF, they just have the number. Each fuse is marked and there is a 7 but there is no fuse there, just space for a fuse. There isn't even a socket for a fuse as if it has been removed, there isn't even a socket.
What next?

Do you mean there is a toggle switch somewhere?
Or if I need to rewire it, would I just pull the socket out somehow and connect the live instead of the ignition cable? Or would I need to source a live connection from elsewhere?

The only way on a multi-plexed is to run a fused feed from another source. You could take this from the ignition switch as this is probably the most substantial wire inside the car and saves running a wire through the bulkhead to the engine bay. Just make sure that you solder the connection and insulate it properly.
It's currently wired Battery - engine bay fuse box (MF07) - ignition switch - passenger fuse box (F22) - accessory socket. As far as I am aware there is no switch and no option in the BSI to make it a constant 12v

OK thanks.
I am fairly competent with electronics but I have never worked on a car before.
When you say the ignition switch, I assume this is the thing attached to the barrel where I insert the key to start the engine?
Do you know what gauge wire I will need?
I guess I use the same fuse as is on the existing line?

I have taken the plastic off from underneath the steering wheel. To save me going over everything with a multimeter, do you know which loom I can find the relevant live from the engine bay fuse box? And it's colour?

According to Diagram 2 here, it looks to be a black wire marked BF07, going to pin 1 on a 3-pin connector on the ignition switch.
The upstream fuse is 30A - if you use same gauge wire as BF07, then 30A is OK. Existing lighter fuse is 20A - if you use the gauge wire as that what currently goes to the lighter, then no higher than 20A.
Basic wiring and fusing - use wire heavy enough to not cause too big voltage drop for the planned load, then fuse so that an overload can't cause the wire to heat up enough to be a hazard, or fuse according to the expected draw of the load - whichever is lowest.

sorry if I misunderstand, but can't you move the fuse as you can with the radio fuse to make it permenent live?
