Hello all,
A while back I bought some blue LED's for my clock and never got round to changing them.
What would be best to replace the original orange film?
White paper/ blue paper? and would I need something thicker to stop white spots?
Cant actually find any where that shows a good thing to use rather than a sweet wrapper ha!

So because I have Blue LED's, is it worth just getting plain white diffuser paper? or getting blue?

Why not get both and have a play?
LCDs seem to vary massively across the field and it would seem that often you can get some unexpected results. I'd recommend trying both and maybe having a play with some household bits and pieces as well - see what you prefer.

I am just swapping the bulbs over following the tutorial on here. When I have replaced them, only 1 of the bulbs work. They have all gone back in correctly but even if I put back in the original bulb they don't come back on. Is there a trick or something I'm doing wrong?
Any help please!

Pull them out again and verify with known good supply (wires from the battery, wall wart power supply, lab power supply etc) or ohm-meter/test light that they actually still work. Old bulbs jostled from their resting place often take offense and give up the ghost especially the very thin filaments of low wattage bulbs.
Check that the metal wings/sliders on the bulb holders haven't been bent, and actually will make contact with the copper on the circuit board.

That seems a bit too technical for me but it does seem like testing them would be good place to start. Do they need to go into a certain way? As I've tried spinning them around and no luck.
I had managed to get one working by swapping it around but not sure if I got lucky.
Any other ideas?

If you can't test them and can't find someone to it, just buy new ones. It's not the most costly part...
They're not directional, unless someone previously has changed them to LED's...
Since shifting them around got one working might point to the little wings not making proper contact. Could try giving them a little adjustment...

Would it be safe to spin them around while the car is on so then I can see when the light comes on?
I haven't done that yet as it seems unsafe aha!

Despite the 206's electronics reputation for being twitchier than a spastic on a meth bender, I've not really found it to be that bad and am pretty far from as cautious as this board generally recommends - and I wouldn't do it, but then I do know 10+ ways of testing the bulbs with what's in arms reach as I sit here.
I'd see a small risk of possibly shorting something out, but I don't recall the exact layout of the contacts on the PCB - a risk/chance of having the contact elements as you twist the connector might do a 'make before brake' and touch both a positive and ground terminal at once instead of only one at a time (breaking away from the first before making connection to the second, or break-before-make ) That'd blow a fuse and if very unlucky possibly damage something despite fusing.

I've always worked on these live to test them - As above you always run a risk of damaging something when you work live - The bulbs are wired seperately so would only blow a fuse at most. Still be careful whenever working on a live system.
No risk of harm to you as it's only 12v and tiny current but just weigh up the options before you start.

Yeah I only have 1 working but no matter what order or orientation I put the new bulbs or even old working ones, they dont want to come on.
If I open it a bit more so I can see from the front (where the screen is) will this show the contacts of the holder and the bulbs?
p.s Cheers for the help so far, such an easy task is a pain in ass!

So the one bulb that works won't work in any other position, and no other bulb will work in the position where you have the one bulb working?
And you've verified the other bulbs are working?
If you've had the unit open to change the colour, I'd imagine a possibility is that something has broken internally. I'd open it up again and check for continuity (w/ multi meter) between the corresponding contact pads for the bulbs (all the bulbs should, AFAIK, be wired together in parallel.

The bulbs are indeed wired in parallel else you'd lose all bulbs if onw blew

Yeah I they "should" be working as they are all brand new bulbs. Also I put the old bulb back in after I got fed up of the new ones not working and it worked again! But then changed it in the exact same way and no luck!
It believes me that the new bulbs don't work but they seem to be working!
Can I see the metal contacts If I take the screen out?
