So it's been a while since I replaced the filter cone on my GSR hose. This ISN'T one of those 'what size' is it questions though.

I've got a set of Vernier Calipers and I've measured the OD (Outer Diameter) as 83mm, but I've got to measure the inner diameter really to make sure I get a suitable replacement.

Now I suspect that if I try to remove the cone that's on there already, it's going to turn to dust, and getting a replacement cone will likely take a few days. So assuming I take it off, are there any short-term fixes I can put in place to prevent crap from being sucked up into the engine? (I was thinking perhaps some tights secured over the hose)?

At worst, the donor car has a full OEM filter system, but that means burying stuff back in the wings - which I suspect will be a pain. So I'd like to avoid that if I can.
