My partner and I recently went away taking both the GTi's with us on a camping trip. Arriving at our destination, I noticed a rubbing sound coming from the OSR.
Anyway, we got on with things and when I had some spare time had a look around. There's slight camber on the rear axle, although that was present when I bought the car and was on the opposite side. There's hardly any room behind the standard alloys to get your hands behind the wheel on the suspect side. With the car unloaded I took it out for a quick run around, and no issues with rubbing. Whilst I had some tools, stupidly I'd taken out the jack so there wasn't a lot more I could do.
I made a call out to the AA to enquire about potentially getting recovery, and they wanted a nice round £400 for the privelege, but wanted to send a van out to do an inspection.
Having got the car up and wheels off, and inspected the axle it was determined that there wasn't anything wrong. Although I noted that the rear arch liner was protruding oddly and wouldn't push back. While the AA guy stood around pondering about how that shouldn't be, I got underneath and noticed that there was no longer a fuel tank strap and we concluded that the tank must have sunk and twisted. Combined with the additional weight, the tyre must have been rubbing on the liner.
The AA guy jacked up the tank and secured it, but the filler pipe was still protruding from the arch liner.
With the tank not correctly reporting fuel data, I was wondering, is there a possibility someone has fitted the wrong tank to the GTi?
Or, is there some other reason the filler pipe would be protruding from behind the arch liner?

Fuel tank strap is a known weak spot on the 206, replaced a couple when I was a 206 owner.
There are only 4 fixings holding the tank in & 2 of those also secure the tank strap.

Ah, from what I saw on servicebox it looked like the two holding the tank are on the upper side of it?
Even with the bottom of the strap gone, the tank is being held by the two bolts so the movement can only be minimal. So I can't fathom out why, where the filler pipe joins the tank juts out so much. Surely it's supposed to sit neatly behind the liner?
