MOT hasn't changed for diesels with CATs, only with DPF.
If you have DPF, the casing needs to be there but the innards can be knocked out |

Maybe diesels might be fine, but the case about him decatting his 1.1 not being worth it has been stood up for and thats all I was concerned about
Could you imagine if every gti owner on here went about on every thread and said 'dont do it its not worth it because you have an inferior engine to me'? No, because this site would soon have no returning members |
True it was uncalled for as its down to the OP with what he does to his car. |

Not trying to troll, but seriously, it's really not worth doing, plus it's illegal, you want noise? Drill a few holes in your airbox |
You have de-cat in your signature?! LOL |
It's legal on a diesel. LOL. |
Not any more, new rules say all cars that left the factory with a cat have to have one at MOT |
Wrong that is only on Petrols, Diesels are fine. |
AFAIK the MOT tester has to physically see a cat for an MOT for it to pass
Being a 2001 it will have a front manifold mounted cat |

Thanks for all your help and for backing me up, its just something I wanna try for the fun of it, plus you learn from it don't you. I'm aware the performance won't increase but there's always that popping sound isn't there ;)!
I reckon i'll play it the pikey way and head down to the breakers yard and get one from a same car and gut it, then i can always keep mine for replacement when my MOT comes right?
Just to clarify my CAT is from the Manifold right? so when I goto the breakers yard what do i need to get?
many thanks. |
You need to check as it CAN be in the manifold or it CAN be under the car in the centre pipe it takes 30 seconds maximum to look.
If it's in the cat you need to get an aftermarket manifold, as addaz has said the oil filter housing is in the way so you can't just go and get a manifold from one that had the cat under the car.
If it's under the car, just get a centre pipe from a car that has it in the manifold and it will automatically de cat it. |
