Got a working part tonight, (off a 2006 car), and fitted it - works fine now.
In my case it was the motor - but Mr BSI's other comments could have been equally valid too.
I have a similar problem at the moment. Solenoid (motor) buzzes but will not lock the boot.
When I checked I found that the motor had failed. Got a replacement from the scrapyard and fitted it - moto ...
