Thnaks for the reply, the wire is OK, the plug on the end of the wire is OK.
what happened is the plug didnt come off the switch so the bottom part of the switch ( with the plug attached) separated ...

Had a minor issue with the handbrake console ( somehow managed to drop something in the gap) which meant that in order to retreive this item i needed to take the plastic cover off.

All fuses checked with a multimeter, and all fuses OK.
also the brake light in teh same cluster is nt working, although the indicators do.
