What exactly is wrong with the axle? The axle is a big old beast.. What was the reason for failure? (You should have an explanation).

Comm2000 - I had thought about that but was very much hoping it wouldn't be! I guess if the switch is faulty inside it could give the problem I'm seeing. But would that cause the Pug to H4 connector ...

How on earth could it possibly have been the immobiliser?

If all electrics cut out (as indicated in the OP) then it's not an immobiliser issue... An immobiliser stops the engine from firing... it ...

Try a battery test to determine if the battery is holding its charge properly.

If the battery is healthy it may be worth checking the condition of the air filter and spark plugs.

It's a fiddly job but as above.

Make sure you put some news paper / old rags down as oil will drip when the sensor is removed.

Possibly a loose wire causing a short.

As above which fuse number was it? That way someone (or you) can check the wiring diagram to see if the dial and airbag use the part or all of the same circu ...

As above, it's just the needles resetting.

If it was the battery you'd notice dimmed dashboard lights, issues starting in the morning and various other tell tale signs.

Good man. A wiring diagram and a little bit of patience does wonders on this job.

... If only I had a quid for every time someone posts up, "switch the yellow and red wires over"...
