So I changed the fluid with PSF. The power steering itself still feels fine, no obvious leaks either.

It hasn't made any difference to the sound however. It's going to my local garage tomorrow so h ...

thanks for your reply, I will try that.

It has also been suggested to replace the power steering fluid so I plan to to try this as well.

The Haynes manual says it takes Total Fluide LDS but when ...
