I found the AL4 auto box to be rather good in 2 years of ownership. But I am nonetheless aware of its reputation for being a bit pants! |

Does it rattle over bumps or is it rattling over normal road surface too?

Does the car "kick down" if you put the throttle fully down?
Also, if you put it in sports mode, do you still get a slow pull away? |

Not sure if the head shield has been checked. Is it an easy thing to find and check?
Would it also cause a blowing noise if it has a problem?

Sounds like a good idea.
I think it might be the exhaust rattling, it seems a bit blowy too. I'll ask the garage to take a look via pre -MOT or some kind of health check deal.
