Diesels alway sound tappy and rattley, so I shouldn't worry about it. As for the cutting out could be a blocked fuel filter or a dodgey injector. |

The alternator is belt driven from the Aux belt, so if the belt is loose or the bearing has gone that could cause the noise. |

They're not that accurate mate, mine used to give the same readings as yours, full, empty, half or flashing. Its mostly a guide, the best way of checking is on the dipstick every week when you do your ... |
