Turned out to be a dodgy BSI unit (now fixed)...thanks once again for all the above advice

That's what I was hoping I could avoid but thanks for all the above suggestions. Will update this forum if the local independent Peugeot garage manage to resolve

Have tried a new (fully charged) battery and also a soft BSI rest described elsewhere on this site but still the same problems unfortunately
