It was a bad earth, either the heavy black battery one that connects to the inner wing and the gearbox mount or the single green wire (on my car anyway) that is connect ...

Macca - yeah the battery was off before i disconnected the starter (only took the small wire off tho & left starter hanging out of the way)

Thanks, thats what I was hoping. Assume there mustnt be a good enough earth somewhere, iirc there were only 2 wires I actually disconnected, 1 was the heavy lead between battery / gearbox / inner win ...

At least with the fords you just got the starter & propshaft off & then the box & clutch was a doddle, no driveshafts / suspension / hoses / wiring to strip :/ lol or have i just got my rose tinted gl ...

Thanks again, yeah I know it needs aligned correctly to get the input shaft through the housing & into the plate. Done clutches before (mainly on RWD stuff like Mk1 & 2 Escorts) but never on a 206; mo ...
