I think you're right. More reading tells me the MA gearbox is junk for anything serious too, so I guess we'll be doing a BE conversion.

Does anyone know whether the drive shafts from a BE4-5 car are compatible with a MA5/TU car?

Specifically, will 2.0 diesel driveshafts bolt into a tu3jp+ma5 car without modifications? Smile

Not a bad idea. I also found an emulator type deal that might work and let us ditch the BSI or reduce its involvement in the car to the very bare minimum. Might have to pick up a spare ECU to play aro ...
