No, its definitely electrical as it does it cold & with ignition on.

Still struggling big time, I've changed the blue sensor in the thermostat housing & the pale blue one just below it on the block, cleaned up the earth(s) & cleaned the corroded contacts on the relays ...

My motor is a different set up to your, probably because its the 16valve, I'm erring that mine only has a blue plug but as you say its a simple fix once identified & I too will repair at home if anyon ...

Does anyone know if the plug I'm looking for (to the ECU) is on the block please, the only plug/sensor in the thermostat housing is the blue one.
At times like these I wish I had a Haynes manual.
