ok so my octanes are now off the car ready for a good refurb in preperation for some new rubber and i'm wanting to get a bit of stretch on the go. the alloys a 6.5j so am thinking a 165/50/15 bridgestone potenza is the tyre to go for..... am just wondering: does anyone know if this would be ok to run as an everyday tyre given the width of the wheel and the tyres i'm wanting to fit?

probably better off with Ross as Jamie isn't active on the forum just now as he's doing lots of studying i think.
Or... try www.wheel-whores.com/ and www.tyrestretch.com/index.php which will be good to see what a 165 looks like on a 6.5j. I think you'd be fine though as long as you keep the tyre pressure up which seems to be the key to tyre stretch. Although it might be worth asking the question on wheel whores or even EU mania which is a UK site.

looked on tyrestretch.com and couldn't see any real issues..... just wondered if it would be ok as a daily driver more than anything.... tyre pressure isnt a probably, check them weekly as it is atm and only takes a min or 2 with the compressor

You'd probably be fine. But if you go on wheel W|-|ores you'll find that people have mixed opinions about tyre stretch. Not to mention that there are nutters out there who have had blow outs, knackered a £500 wheel and still continue to do it! It's most definitely a run at your own risk scenario but generally alright if you maintain them.

just been looking on a golf forum at some1 who's got the same wheels and tyres as me and they seem to be doing fine i'm only going to be stretching the 0.5j over the recommended fitment anyway so its hardly anything crazy.... have pm'ed ross aswell lol...... cheers for the help guys

It's not the best thing to do for an everyday driver as the sidewalls naker quicker and a hight risk of blowouts and chances at they constantly leak air also finding a garage to do it is slim personally ad avoid it and it's really pointless I don't understand the style in it ad much rather have a set of fat wheels than skinny ones that are two small for the car

I personally would never trust stretched tyres. I severely dislike the 'euro' scene as it is, but then they go and start messing with one of the most important things on the car, the tyres! Not only do you have to run at a higher pressure (causing a harder ride and stressing the tyre more) but the risk of blowouts and damage is a fair deal higher.

I understand why the majority of people don't like stretched tyres but why do BMW send the M3 CSL out of the factory with stretched semi-slick tyres on the back wheels..?
I've seen people run thinner tyres on wider wheels then what you've listed and they're never had a problem. 165/50 R15 will be fine on a 6.5J wheel as that was what I was gunna run on my 205 wheels but with the 16" I'm running the same width but a smaller side wall. On my 17" I'll be running a 35 side wall.
