Hey guys, went over a pothole the other day and heard a crunch, had a quick look over the car and couldnt see any damage (bearing in mind i am no mechanic) but went out to the car thismorning and the front drivers side has dropped, i have been told it could be the coilover has snapped, does that sound right? and if so roughly how much to repair. Any help appreciated.
Thanks

If its the coilover, the wheel on one side would sit more into the arch than the other, check that. ![Smile Smile](images/smiles/icon_smile.gif)

Yeah thats what I mean.. It does sound like something to do with the front suspension then.
Get some photo's up of the two front wheels so we can see the difference. I doubt the strut has snapped, but could be something very serious... Contact SillyHilly if it was caused by pothole damage as he will advise you on how to get compo. from the council. ![Smile Smile](images/smiles/icon_smile.gif)

Probably a broken spring. If it's standard suspension a new springs about £30 from Andrew Page and about £50 tops for fitting.

As said earlier Silly Hilly is a good person to contact, he gave me a bunch of info about the councils legal obligations with regard to vehicle/pothole damages. I got a form from my local council and sent it to them with the relevant details of the damage and the hole..just waiting to hear back. No point you being 100% out of pocket, and with the amount of potholes they are being more lenient with payouts.
Also as said earlier it could just be the spring, something for a more experienced mechanical mind to suss out though.

A lowered car [ie: on coilovers] wouldn't stand much chance with claiming from Councils because of non-standard height.

This is true Antix, mind you my alloys were a non standard colour at the time of the incident and I mentioned that I would need to refurb them all again due to the custom paint. I'm also running low profile tyres, two of which were burst/damaged. Its a long shot, definately, but I feel anything in return would be a plus. I was lucky, the pothole I ran into had been complained about a few times previous, solidifying their responsability. Worth checking out the liability at the least.

It'll be the coiled suspension spring that's broken I would imagine
