Hi all
I have just bought a 206sw 1.4hdi which has a very annoying clunk from its rear end.
If checked the following:
radius arm bearings no play at all (have reciept for them being replaced last year)
wheel bearings all ok.
spare wheel carrier - removed - still clonking!
rear shocks removed,(almost got sea sick on road test Smile still clonking
tightened arb..still clonking
removed arb !...still clonking
beam mounts look ok...even when pryed with crowbar!
rear tailgate open -still clonking on road test
exhaust -perfect, cannot hit anything...
if i have rear passengers (my two children) then NO noise!
checked rear seatbelts , rear seats folded ..still clunks

this clunk only seems to happen on bigger potholes.
no different on cornering etc etc.
rock the car at rear from side to side...no noise
PLease Please if anyone can shed some light!
Dave

My first car had a loud clunk noise that sounded like it was coming from the rear, but it was actually coming from the front and was the drop links for the anti roll thing. Take your front wheel off and wiggle kick and knock them to see if they are worn or make the same sound. if it is the drop link they are about £10 to replace your self and your car wont fail its mot Smile

trailing arm bearings, wheel bearing, loose wheel cage, and iirc sw had the extra arms on the rear beam, check them too.

Maybe the bolts holding the rear seats in? They go right through the floor so could make quite a noise if loose
