obviously i'm new to the 206 gti and it may be me just getting use to the handling and the feedback i get from the steering but it seems to be a little vague, not very positive and there feels as if a lot is going on.....even whilst driving through a village.now it's on the cards to check everything out just to be sure and rule certain things out.track rod ends spring to mind.

i decided to open her up a little tonight just for a short while between lix toll and killin and it didn't feel very stable at speed and whilst cornering....this is on standard suspension but i would expect the standard suspension set up to be unstable at speed especially on the gti.

any idea's Question

not very reassuring i know, but my 206 LX handles great with std parts.

dont think it should feel unstable.. unstable how exactly? like its gunna spin out or something??

Please Dont take any of my posts as written fact. They are simply my opinion and although to the best of my knowledge true, the information within them may well be incorrect.

Any work you undertake as a result of my posts is done so at your own risk Smile

The steering was never were communicative, which did spoil the entry into corners because it made you feel a bit blind if you see what I mean. It's amazing how much you rely on steering feel when driving hard.

as if it's floating, not so much that it feels as if its going to spin or anything like that but there is some movement from side to side.i'm convinced there is play in the steering, track rod ends or maybe something else.

the cars going in to the garage to have the lower arm replaced,on the last mot there was an advisory for excessive play in the lower arm.that was last april but to be fair the car has only done 2k since then.

hopefully that will solve the handling issue's and the terrible feeling of not being in control.

i'm getting that done after the front tyres go on.the feedback from the steering should be spot on after this i hope,i know the steering is apparently a bit vague on these but at the moment it is terrible.you don't feel like you are in control and its spoiling the enjoyment of driving the gti.

yeah sorry i thought i had updated it Embarassed

all that was wrong with the front end was a wheel bearing and the lower suspension arm.

the main culprit was excessive play in the offside rear wheel.it was quite concerning.

the car has now been sold as of today.
