Have you tried knocking the bolt back through, with the nut screwed on a little to protect the threads? You can also try and use a chisel and drive it into the gap at the back to open it up so that the strut isnt being held in the top of the hub?

Bigger hammer is the answer
To get more room to hit the chisel try and turn the hub to full lock so the back of the hub is closer to the front, so you get more room to use the hammer.

As suggested, just try a bigger hammer. I t will have been in there a few years but it will come out with a good smack from a heavy hammer. I hope you've bought some new ones to replaced the old stuff?

Did you take the hub off the wishbone first?
