Sometimes my 180 doesn't start first turn of the key when cold. Usually it involves being parked on a slight incline but it has been known to do it on the flat.

It's due a service in the next 500 miles IIRC, I'm hoping it will sort it... but I'm posting this thread up to see if it's a common problem as the search tool returned nothing useful. My old one never did it which made me start to worry. I highly doubt it's the battery, as if I turn the key on the second go it starts fine, and it's in constant motorway use. Also there are no faults on the display.

I'm aware that the car didn't do many miles in 2 years, could this have affected the engine? i.e sitting around something corroded inside?

It's not a dig at the previous owner, I just want to know if it's a common problem or anything to worry about.

Cars used for motorway journeys only really, I do roughly 100-200 miles per week and it's sitting on 28,650 or so miles got it on just ticked over 27k under my ownership. It's left to run in the mornings until up to temperature and I let the fuel run down, to as far as I can push it before filling up with the occasional high octane fuel and blast to keep everything tip top. The car is not thrashed, I can't afford to be doing that my MPG is 28.8 combined, thats with the trip computer reset under my ownership.

While i'm at It, it also suffers with clutch judder and I'm wondering if this will be an issue? I don't particularly want to fork out for another if it's just a matter of time before it goes again (could be 1 mile - 50k from what I've read)

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Jamie

The clutch judder is a commen Fault warped clutch plate or fly wheel. Mine is at the garage as we speek have a new clutch kit, cambelt kit and a mot :(.

It is not a good idea to let the fuel run low as it drags all the crap up from the bottom of the tank. Never let mine go below 1/4 of a tank.

As for not starting first time do u let all the lights go out befoure starting as mine sometimes won't start if I don't let the lights go out or could be a lazy startermotor, fuel pump , temperature sensor etc etc.

Yeh I know about the clutch judder just wondering if it will do damage if I decide it's not worth sorting until the day it gives up lol.

I just turn the key tbh unsure about the light thing, but it's a tad embarrassing considering I had a Saxo before which started every time and family always seem to be about when it doesn't and look worried when it doesn't start first time : S.

Are you starting the car & then leaving it ticking over until its up to temp thinking your being kind to the engine but in fact ruining it OR are you starting the car & driving but keeping the revs below 2.5k until up to temp which is actually much kinder to an engine?

why is it unkind to let the car tick over until the engines warmed up?

Because the oil & water take longer to warm up due to the engine sitting there at idle meaning the wear on top end somponents like camshafts etc is higher, your also wasting fuel.

Start the engine, drive of, dont labour it but keep the revs below 2.5k until the temps are up to normal & then you can use more of the rev range Wink

Depends on how much of a rush i'm in but I do , do the 'ruining' part apparently. I let it warm up before giving it any beans, regardless though. Usually it's the weekends when I let it sit and warm up, weekdays i'm usually in a rush so do the low revs bit. But I wont lie and say I don't let it sit here and there.

I'm not really having much luck with this car since I bought it.

Recently, as soon as I get in to the car the music player (on it's own) decides to hit full volume. And it does it very often. If I try to turn it down it's like someones turning it up at the same time. In the end I get so annoyed I turn the CD player off and leave it off for a good 10 minutes and it usually fixes it.

And today, it really got on my nerves. When I came back to my car today, I unlocked the car and the horn just went ballistic! It wouldn't turn off until I opened the door and hit the horn!

Anyone know what the hell is going happening with my car?

I actually just posted the number plate papers today to get my private plate on and started to think I may regret it!

It's annoying because I really love the car, always have loved 180's and this one LOOKS great, but it seems it's developing annoying faults at random!

HELP HELP HELP please : (

How much would it cost for the update, it has already had one in it's history due to a lumpy idle from reading...

That sounds like an engine ecu update.

A BSI software update is totaly different Wink

Normally half hour labour or possibly an hour, depends how friendly the dealer is Laughing

If you want any options tweaking in the BSI that will be the time to ask.

Rear wiper in reverse if fronts are on

Auto locking

Fold / unfold mirrors upon locking / unlocking
