this only acts up occasionally, 50% of the time when im gonna reverse.
so im in the car park looking for a lot... i see one and i wanna reverse in.

problem is..
when i try to put the gear into reverse, it does not fully slot into R.
its at the point where its between neutral and R.
i know its not in gear and it wont go into R.

my solution is to ...
let the car roll just a few millimeters (if there is a slight gradient on the road), clutch-in and i can go into R.
otherwise i go back to 1st gear, move a little.. and go back to R again and it will always work only if i move the car.

whats going on with my reverse gear?

*edit
i drive a manual just to clarify.

Perfectly normal for a 206 gearbox.

You can also make sure its still in neutral, let the clutch up for a few seconds the press the clutch down & try reverse again.

We had a thread on this a while ago. I fin the best way is to keep trying to put it in reverse (gently) and at the same time slowly lift the clutch up. It shoud jus pop in with ease doing tht

I usually pop it into 1st with the clutch down, and then it goes back into r easily.

f*****g annoying though..

As above with all these methods. Its just a general Pug design flaw which seems to affect all engines and gearboxes.

Laughing Rolling Eyes

I mean.. when you try and go into R, and it just doesn't when you lift off the clutch, push it down, change into 1st, change into R, release clutch and this time it should be in properly.

is there a reason/fix to this?

No fix as said above this is normal for a 206.

I now double clutch every time i want t reverse and have not had this problem since. That's a fix for ya. Its to do with the cogs not being in the perfect place for them to mesh together. so have to rotate a little.

Annoying yes, life threatening no.

So long as you don't force it into gear and double clutch it won't cause any further problems, mine has been like this since i got it at 32K miles, It has not got any worse and is now covered over 80K miles Smile
