Just had the car back from having the engine mounts replaced. The guy that did the work has pointed out that there is a vibration from the engine through 1000 rpm. Said it could be a number of potentially expensive reasons such as cam belt, water pump, pulley or a clutch imbalance. Above and below 1000 rpm there is no vibration at all and the car drives fine.

Just wondering if anyone has experienced this.

Thanks in advance for any help or advice.

At idle there is no vibration. As you increase revs to 1000 rpm there is a noticeable vibration felt through the car. As revs increase beyond 1000 rpm the vibration stops.

i've had this on a couple of cars, check there's no loose bolts or mountings on the exhaust system.

failing that i had a similar problem recently on the 206 which turned out to be the alternator pulley causing the rumble. get a mate to rev it to the vibration point and see if your alternator belt tensioner is bouncing like mad. if it is then it could be the pulley i mentioned or the crankshaft pulley below it.

Thanks guys. One of those faults that's pointed out to you and then you can hear/feel it. Not sure if it was there before the engine mounts were fitted.

I have however had a lot of problems with breaking exhausts recently which we thought were due to the engine mounts being worn, hence the replacement. The current exhaust is cracked again and will be replaced under warranty. I'll check when this is done as it may cure the problem.

I will try the other suggestions later and get back to you.

Thanks again. Smile

No real noise with it. More of a shudder at 1000 rpm. Nothing before or after.

Just called the guy that replaced the engine mounts - non genuine Peugeot parts used. Could this be the problem?

Its not the engine mountings mate.I have also had new shocks and springs, top mounts all engine mountings replaced with genuine pug parts and I have the same vibration at around 1000rpm..You see it especially in the mornings , just after you start the car, the engine vibrations is really rough. You feel the entire car judder. As the car warms up, it gets better. Nothing to do with mountings-
Guys on the forum have mentioned this before and as of yet, no one seems to have found the cause.
P.S - I also have the 99 Gti

Anyone suggested hydraulic lifters? quite a common problem on the original GTi, known for causing lumpy idle.
