Hi

I have a Peugeot 206 1.4 HDI and very occasionally it loses power.
This happens either on acceleration or a steady 70 MPH on the motorway so it's not at a certain speed.
It did it about a year ago and then stopped for around a year so I thought it was dodgy fuel.
The fuel filter, MAF sensor, air filter + accelerator pedal have all been replaced very recently so it's not them.
These were parts I replaced that had worn out as I'm not replacing parts on the off chance it's them!
I have also checked all the fuel lines and no leaks.
I haven't had it read for fault codes yet but may have to.

If anyone has any ideas I would be very grateful as it only happens every so often and sometimes I will drive 300 miles without it doing it.

Thanks

Andy

Do you get the engine management light coming on at all?

Thanks for the quick replies.
I have done numerous searches before posting as often they solve problems.
However that ICV refers to a petrol engine with a throttle body housing.
Mine is 1.4 HDI with no throttle housing - the throttle is electronic, on the pedal.
Also it has no problem idling and only loses power when driving.
It feels like the fuel supply is being cut off momentarily then comes back in less than a second.

The engine management hasn't come on either.

When it cut out last year I checked the device in the fuel tank, under the rear seat, but it's not a pump only a fuel gauge sensor unit with a filter on it which I cleaned.

I took mine to an auto technician yesterday in Leeds and he couldn't find any errors that have been logged.
It needs to do it a bit more consistently before the ECU will log an error but also it clears them itself if they don't repeat after 40 cycles!

I used to love my Peugeot 205 diesel turbo, 1992, as it was so straightforward and never went wrong.
New engines are ridiculously over-complicated to comply with emissions etc.
A lot of his business is with people bringing cars in for faults on the sensors and not just Peugeots.
I might get an older one next time Very Happy

Well Nashy I will post on here if I get to the root of the problem
I've been looking at other forums with similar HDI symptoms to ours and there are some cheap parts to replace like clutch pedal switch which I will try.

Yes on the 1.4 HDI there is no low pressure fuel pump in the tank, only the high pressure fuel pump for the common rail.

Glad to hear it's got better anyway Nashy.
Which wires did you play with?
There's possibly a loose one somewhere.
