I've always been a fan of jap cars but when i was given this very much neglected and vandalised car i just had to save it!
This car was my dads car then he sold it to someone who was working for him at the time, and got it back for cheap due to the new owner not topping up the oil much after a service and it's bottom end bearings gave up so my brother decided he wanted it, got another engine spent loads of money getting water pump, timing belt, clutch, battery, aux belt, tensioners, pulleys, back box and alternator on it only to find the head was busted on the new engine and was overheating after about 5 miles so he parked it up in a housing scheme.

That was over 2 years ago and when i got the keys just on tuesday i went to get the battery to charge. I found the wheels had been stolen among other things but it started up first time :D, pictures after getting it on a low loader to the lock up i'm using thanks to a friend who's helping me with this rebuild/restoration:
thats me in the black btw (standing like a gimp haha) anyone know what to use to get the paint off of the front? number plate and lights is no problem just the bodywork i don't wanna ruin.

had a 15" and a 16" space saver on the back and 2 16" wheels from a jeep Grand Cherokee on the front just to get her moving.

spoiler was lying in front of the car so has been kept for a new boot lid

full yellow and black leather = yum Very Happy

no radio Sad

boot lock had been ripped out

along with drivers door lock

gonna be updating this over the days and weeks to come, first stop is the engine as right now you fill it with water, it runs like s**t, tries to cut out and throws the water out of the exhaust. I still have the old engine in storage so just gonna take the head off that and make 1 good engine out of the 2.

also there is a hole in the rotten old cat:

does anyone know if i will need this for an MOT? the car itself is a 1991 but was imported from japan in 1999 so unsure of where they would put it in a test.

this isn't going to be an easy project but always loved these cars and always wanted a project non-running one.. and i got this for FREEE! Very Happy

all comments welcome.

Chris

What are the plans for the old girl then? Just get her back to original condition or make some improvements? Respraying it yellow??
Upgrade to rev 3+ rear lights, panel, spoiler and turbo lid Wink
They are brilliant cars, love mine but it's currently undergoing complete overhaul.
Will keep an eye on this Smile

plans are:
get the engine running

get the bodywork all done

the red parts will be getting redone in yellow yeah

i like the turbo lids but not too sure on the lights

get some rev 3 alloys i think powdercoated black

basically back to original except some rev3 parts and even though its an import will be converting to mph and keeping it.. maybe do a V6 twin turbo conversion somewhere down the line or drop a rev3 turbo in it Smile my dad used to have a G plate turbo and it was fast but restricted. think thats lying in someones garden with a blown turbo lol

fixing this engine first because i have the spare and it will be cheaper i suppose.

dan do you know if all 3S-GE heads are the same? trying to get a gasket kit and he said something about valve stem oil seals between the normal MR2 and T-Bar :S

Ahh will be lovely example when done and as you say yellow ones aren't that common.
V6 will be immense, would you do yourself? Hopefully mine will be V6 next year seeing as it's only rev1 lol want more power.
I'm not sure about 3S-GE engine head but tin top and T-bar would make no difference. However, I think you can only use a head from a second gen engine (rev 1 and 2) although don't quote me in that.

no idea but i do know that the engine in it now came from a celica with the same engine but was digging around and the celica and MR2 rev 1 and 2 used the same engine generation, just hope it was the right year.

planning on doing all work myself to save on costs. got a mate to help and his dad is an engineer so help all round really. set myself to get her through the first MOT by the time i go to florida - end of november so plent of time to get the engine done even if problems arise.

Oh yeah erm is there an engine number anywhere that you can cross reference to find the year/gen?
Yeah fair enough may aswell if you can. Mine will probably be going up to Woodsport motors for them to do, just peice of mind really and something I don't need to worry about Laughing
Should get it all sorted for MOT by then Smile
Don't suppose your on IMOC forum are you??
