I gave my old battery to a pikey irish scrap man. His eyes lit up when he saw I had an old battery.
2001 GTi 138, Bilstein Sprint dampers, H&R springs, 21mm Peugeot Sport torsion bars, 22mm rear ARB, Peugeot Sport Group A wishbones, 283mm discs, Goodridge stainless hoses, Maniflow 304 grade 4-2-1 2.5" manifold and system, 200 cell cat, Richard Longman head, 45mm Jenvey throttle bodies, 9.5mm TB spacers, 90mm air horns, Jenvey throttle linkage, Jenvey fuel rail, Aeromotive and Goodridge fuel fittings and braided hose, ITG sausage filter, Radtec custom radiator, Piper Ultimate Road cams, Piper vernier pulleys, Omex 600 ECU. Saxo electric PAS pump, Vibra Technics engine mounts. Samco coolant hoses, TTV steel flywheel, 4.76 final drive ratio, 307 CC 180 ratios. 2019 BMW 530i. 2017 Mercedes C300 convertible.

This weeks special..... all cars through workshop need a new battery or catalytic convertor...... I feel a holiday coming on

well i put the new battery in, still doesnt start, this is going to sound really stupid id imagine, but do i need to get it bump started on the new one to start it charging or should it go straight away?

yup as far as i know.
I'm thinking alternator?
all the electrics come on, and the car just clicks when i turn it over

Starter motor..... alternator wont prevent it from starting

Whip the starter off, and pop into an auto electrician or garage and ask them to load test it for you. Sounds to me like it has been drawing a lot of current and has killed the old battery, if there is a short in it now it would explain the clicking.... solonoid working but motor not turning

Follow the thick + cable towards the engine block, the starter motor will be connected to it somewhere along its length.

The alternator should be at the other end of the cable.

The starter motor turns the flywheel, its not gonna be that hard to spot / find.
