I gave my old battery to a pikey irish scrap man. His eyes lit up when he saw I had an old battery.

Did you shut down / reboot the BSI correctly?

Whip the starter off, and pop into an auto electrician or garage and ask them to load test it for you. Sounds to me like it has been drawing a lot of current and has killed the old battery, if there is a short in it now it would explain the clicking.... solonoid working but motor not turning

Follow the thick + cable towards the engine block, the starter motor will be connected to it somewhere along its length.
The alternator should be at the other end of the cable.
The starter motor turns the flywheel, its not gonna be that hard to spot / find.
