Hi guys,
I have a 1.4 8v on a '53'. Sadly it is quite basic model and doesn't have any air-con.
I was wondering wether it would be cheaper to get all the bits from an air-con model and fit them to mine or just trade it in/swap it for one with it from factory?
Has anyone done it on here? If anyone has, how difficult is it?
Help always appreciated
Cheers

Ask yourself...
Is it worth the hassle of retrofitting.. (Will be very very hard.)
Do you really want to trade in your car.
If yes to one of the above:
How often are you going to use it a year...

I fitted climate control, dash out job
Air con i removed rather than fitted as i personally hate it and it adds drag to the engine
But im sure 02 onwards air con was standard?

I think it would be worth the hasstle of fitting it as I find air conditioned cars help my astma. I know it will be difficult, but I don't know exaclty how hard it is.
I know I would use it regularly, as the car itself never seems to get cool and anything above 40ish MPH you have to have the windows closed.
I wouldn't mind swapping it for a slightly older 2.0HDi (to banlance out the value difference. Newer vs desireability of derv) but I wouldn't want to part with cash to get something the 'same' if you see what I mean. But I like my orange interior, but then again, I think I would like a different one just as much.

As for fitting it yourself. I am not sure. I know Northantsben has just removed his and it was an engine out job. You will also need to change your Aux-belt to the bigger on. IF possible.
Might be cheaper and less hassle selling yours and buying a HDi.

I have asthma it made me feel like s**t when ever i turned it on, but everyones different
You have to change the pulley set up/tensioner and a new belt. Need rad housing, radiators and you may not even have the wiring so is it really worth it? No imo
