Got a 138 GTi and at low speeds either going over speed bumps or uneven surfaces i can hear my rear suspension squeeking and knocking but nothings ever been flagged up rear suspension wise on an MOT

Ive also noticed that when the car is parked and i get out you can hear it creaking from the rear as the suspension settles Confused

Any ideas?

Try checking the bolt fastening the spare wheel carrier its tight.

Pretty much anything less than supertight will allow for movement between the cradle, spare wheel and boot floor as you drive (especially over bumps).

I would imagine the creaking as you park up and get out would be caused by the handbrake slipping on the rear wheel brakes.

I'l check the spare wheel carrier, there's no spare it it currently so that might be why.

Just a case of adjusting the handbrake cable?

Might be the boot catch release. Pull the back plastic off the inside of the boot and tighten everything up.

you may be maxing your shocks out if your running standard setup, i'm not sure the drop you can get on em, maybe someone has experience??

i upgraded my rears but went too low and it squeaked like MAD!! everytime i went over bumps and even draincovers, no amount of greasing and lube helped. i just raised it by 10mm and its such a smooth ride in comparision Smile

...try it, its an adjustment that wont cost you (if you do it yourself obviously)

That pretty much sounds like the problem im having, the shocks have been changed over to th eones that came with my coilover kit years ago, ive got a unused set of eibach rear shocks that i never fitted so i might try swapping those over an raising it up a little

Does it sound like your going over loose drain covers. If so mine done this when i lowerd it, it ended up being tje rear anti roll bar. It just needed tightning up or something as you cant see its loose as its built into the back axel Smile
