something near passenger feet getting extremely hot

I noticed yesterday that in the passnger footwell to the right of the feet there is a black sort of box with a tube comine out the back, and it was extremely hot I then drove today and had a weird burning smell?
Can anyone help?
I have a peugeot 206 1.1 01 reg

I'm not sure to the right of the feet, is itnsupposed to get really hot? As I've never noticed it before

water from the engine flows into the box for the heaters so will get warm anyway,

but the burning smell you mention Confused

The box itself gradually gets hotter and there is a pipe running from the back of it. When I touch that it's almost hot enough to burn my hand:s ?

might be just the heater matrix then, it uses the water from the engine so would slowly get hotter and hotter

nope, seems normal to me. Maybe I'm just being an idiot, but I did notice it when the car wasn't turned on, I had it so the stereo was playing as I fitted some neons in the footwells and at that point noticed it was red hot
