Hello,
1st post for me as this seemed like a very knowledgeable forum, hope you can give me some suggestions.
My finacé has had her 180 for about 18 months, it was a low 23,000 mileage car, one owner and had a completely OTT service history and has been really well cared for. She had an Alfa GTV V6 before this but the 4K a year up-keep was killing her!
Anyway the little Peugeot performed really well until it went in for the dreaded cambelt change in approx April this year. Just before the car went in for this change it had a fresh service and new spark plugs.
To cut a long story short, the garage who changed the cambelt was a non specialist who made such a mess of it, it ended up going to the small claims court. However, this was all rectified and the car went off to the Peugeot main dealer who replaced any damaged parts and put the timing straight.
Although the car still has a lot of go I'd like to get some thoughts - it IS due a service again though anytime soon :
- The car is definately using more fuel, used to cruise easily above 30mpg, but now struggles.
- When accelerating I have noticed a huge flatspot if you accelerate hard from low down the rev range, then all of a sudden like a switch, something clicks and the REVS shoot up and acceleration is excellent (VVT Solenoid?!?!)
- Car just doesn't seem as responsive as before although in the 'sweet spot' the car still performs well.
The garage who messed up the belt change had the cheek to hand the car back in a state and state 'everything was normal' even though the car was slower than a 1.1. After it came back from Peugeot it was like a different car - but I still have the snags above!
I'm going to change the spark plugs myself at the next service as I'm not convinced that running the car with the timing out has ruined them, resulting in the other issues!
Anyway really sorry to drag on and thanks for reading if you made it this far!!
Cheers
JR

Not a clue as the garage did the last change, will take out as soon as I get a chance.
I would presume NGK's.
Do you have a spark plug you would recommend for when I change them?

NGK's should not be used in 206's, someone will be along soon with more info on this or you could search it.
Bosch super 4 are recommended here

NGK's aren't compatible with the coilpacks used on 206's, its all down to the phase detection system the coilpacks have built into them i think, misreads misfires, and can screw the ecu up if i remember rightly.
NEVER use ngk

Excellent - thanks for that.
Well I'm not 100% they are NGK's just have a feeling - will check out asap.
Are plugs from the Peugeot main dealer made by Bosch? or are they different again.
Also is the VVT solenoid worth replacing just to be on the safe side?

You can clean it up with carb cleaner, that normally sorts the problem, if not i dont think they are too expensive.

OK - think I may get one anyway. The poor car is her daily driver and thus has been hammered with miles lately.
Does anyone have a part # for it? As I hate waiting on the phone whilst they go through each menu on the parts system!!
Will look into getting some Bosch Super 4's - thanks.

As everyone has said... Bosch Super 4 Plugs mate
As for the VVT solenoid, ust clean it with carb cleaner! Haven't seen many people have to replace them.. a good old clean usually does the trick!

Isn't that the VVT working right tho?
Feels sluggish then VVT switches and it goes?

Thanks for all the input.
Am I right in thinking the part # for the VVT Solenoid is 00001920 GR?
I don't think it is working properly anyway as it used to feel a smooth transition higher up the Rev range. At the moment there is a flat spot lower down as well that just does not 'feel' right.
Just as a side note do the 180's have an external fuel filter to change or is it a self clean jobbie built into the pump assembly? If it is changeable will do that too as doubt it has ever been changed!
Will get all these parts ordered next week :o)

Not really Mattie, it should be a smooth delivery of power, it sounds like the OP has on/off power, if ya get me.

Well I'm back, hate leaving these threads un finished so thought I would give some feedback on my findings.
Finally got round to taking some bits apart last night as have been so busy lately on other projects.
Removed spark plugs and what do you know they were NGK! Surprise Surprise.
TBF car runs ok but just not as before they were changed, so went straight to my friendly Peugeot dealer earlier today and got a new set of OE Bosch ones so will fit tonight and report back.
Last night removed VVT solenoid and cleaned with STP carb cleaner and completely degrimed it - must say even that made a noticable difference in the smoothness of the pickup.
Will report back once sparks have been changed. Hoping to have our girl back of old!
