Everythings just getting worn out so it now needs a new clutch and gearbox

had a gander at some other topics to see if its cheaper to see if its cheaper to buy a new gearbox and clutch for my pug or just call it a day and buy another car rather than throwing money at it and in 6 months time something else go wrong with it.

i know its french which doesnt help lol

but just wondering if buying both a clutch and gearbox is better than buying a new car ?

Cheers in advance Cool

(used the search button but couldnt find anything along the lines of expences, so apologies if its been posted before)

Depends, how reliable/unreliable has the rest of the car been? Could you afford to change cars right now, or are you just about scraping together the cash for a new box and clutch?

Also it's better to live with the devil you know than try to live with one you dont Wink

Shut it u stupid little f**k, what's the point in posting in all my treads being such a c***? Least I can afford a gti180, and to get the cam belt done!

So apparently everyone knows my financial situation? If I wanted a 180 I would have bought a 180 simples Smile

You would probably be better getting a no noise making 2nd hand box off someone breaking a 206 to be fair, it will be ALOT cheaper than a new one. The only problem with second hand is you never know when it's going to go.

If you really like the car get a new gearbox, you like it but don't plan to keep it for a good few years then 2nd hand, if you just want rid then sell but you wont get much for one with a knackered clutch/gearbox.

I'm quite attached to it as its my first car so know all the in's and outs on it Smile depending on how bad it is i'll throw a bitta cash into it as like leethr says i'm not exactly rolling in money.

Cheers for the advice guys Smile

Ive just rebuilt the MA box from my 1.4 SW due to an unknown noise, it turned out to be the Pinion bearing that was the culprit. Total parts replaced where a full set of bearings & seals and a new set of planet gears for the box, fitted a new clutch also. Total cost £185, but i did do the work myself.

HTH,

Nick.

HTH,

sounds about right; normal gearbox rebuild kit cost around 80-90 (think is 5 bearing and 3 seal)

clutch is 100 or so.
