Hi,

I am worried that my 206 maybe about to develop an overheating fault.

Ive notice is starting to use/loose coolant and have to top up quite a small ammount each weekend and now in traffic it'll reach the notch after 90 and the fan kicks in and the temp comes down.

I had the water pump changed in the summer when the belts were done. Are there any simple tests I can do myself before going to the garage?

Thanks
Louis

where can the coolant be going?

Only 2 places it can go
1/ a leak........look under the car and also the front carpet area to see signs of water
or
2/ head gasket failure.......your car will be burning the water and exhaust fumes will be white
check condition of oil just incase it is being mixed.

All the best

Meant to ad

Bubbles in the expansion water bottle indicate a blown head gasket
A sniff test at a garage will tell you for sure if it is the head gasket.

Hi,
I think exhaust is whiter than normal and coolant looks quite dirty.

Should I buy one of these and test www.ebay.co.uk/itm/PET...680wt_1030

How much should I expect to pay for a good head gasket replacement?

Thanks
Louis

Hi,
Strangly main dealer repairseems cheapest option, quoted me 300 if easy change and if skim not needed. Had prices of upto 500 from smaller local garages.

I can afford to do this just yet. When I drive car sits at 80-85 degree. When in traffic rises untilfan kicks in. I read that if you short the wires where the sensor meets the radiator the fan will come on..... But I can't see a sensor on the radiator. Anywhere else I can short to bring the fan on?

A main dealer qouted just £300 for a head gasket? Wow!

skimming is only needed if the cylinder head is warped.

Yeah 300 if head is not warped, I am guessing their high hourly rate is out weighed by them having done the job many times and now quite quick at doing.

No white muck in my oil, never overheated into the red. The fan kicks in just in time, however if I can work out how I'd like the start the fan myself earlier than 95-100 degrees
