hey guys.

well recently my brakes have started to get spongey!

when sat with the car running i can easily get the pedal to the floor and when driving i must have about 2-3 inchs of travel before i get any braking power, maybe 4inches for some heavy braking.

the discs and pads are in good condition with plenty life left on them.

when i had my MOT (april) i got 2 advisories for "slightly corroded brake pipes" on both front sides so i need to check these to make sure there is no fluid leaking.

but 1 thing im puzzled on is this:

When sitting with the engine turned off and i pump the brake pedal i get a hissing noise from the area behind the glove box. kind of like someone is pump a foot pump without it attached to anything.

obivously with the engine not running the pedal eventually stiffens up.

when you do this with the engine running i still get the hissing noise but just every time i push the brake pedal.

any ideas what this could be???

IF the brake pipes are leaking this is no biggy as i have my brembos to go on so will be getting braided lines anyways

but i am concerned about this hissing noise im getting!!

is there anything else anyone could think could be wrong??

thanks,

Karl.

the hissing noise is normal mate, nothing to worry about.
get the brake pipes changed, i had one go on my old mk4 astra and only had one front brake and one rear working.

Brake lines the MOT mentioned are more likely to be the solid ones running from the servo/master to the flexis. Much more of a faff to replace.

Have you tried flushing the system through with new fluid? It should be replaced every couple of years as it attracts moisture (unless you are using synthetic fluid).

Down to just the 1.4 HDi. Cayman Green 2.0i CC sold.
