Buy a cheap andriod phone and install the "where's my droid" app, and leave it on charge all the time in the car

But then you need Internet + texts and everything on the phone?
Would be good if its hidden in the dash or something though.

You only need a phone with GPS, just get a pay as you go and stick a tenner on it.

Google latitude is a great app, i use it quite alot, when going to meet people so they can see where i am for a guide to ETA.
You will struggle to find a free GPS device as the company's make their money from the monthly charges.

We use Quartix in all our company vehicles. You buy the unit and then thats it. No monthly fees. You use a website to track the vehicle. We use it for where the drivers go, how fast they are driving, braking and acceleration behaviour, distances, times etc. Maybe thats a bit more than you need? They are fitted inside the dash so no one can see them or fiddle with them either.
Have a look at them.
