First noticed this yesterday, basically when i steer in either direction there is a loud whining sound, it's worse when the car is more stationary
I have checked the power steering fluid level which is fine, the steering itself hasn't become heavy so I am a bit stumped as to what it could be, any ideas?

Can you here any whining coming from the pump? My old 306 pump had gone and was making a noise. Sounds like it is the pump.

Its probably not, but it could be the tracking. I dont really know much but my 206 made a horrible screeching noise when the tracking was out.

Not sure where the pump is located exactly but it is coming from the front of the car and its only when i turn the steering wheel left or right
Are they cheap to have replaced?

Ill give you a clue.
Look under the bonnet, the cap to the reservoir for the pump has DIRECTION ASSISTANCE POWER STEERING on it & a picture of a red steering wheel

Its well easy to change, done mine yesterday as the steering is well heavy, took about 20 mins, 2 13mm bolts to the right as you look at it and 2 6mm allen key bolts to the left (you can get a 13mm socket on the 1 tho). You have to get these through the pulley wheel. A 17mm spanner to get the top pipe off and a pliers and screwdriver to get the clip of on the bottom pipe.
After changing mine u have decided that the steering is supposed to be heavy, actually the heaviest car i have ever driven. Oh well.
My main point is its easy.
