Hi all,

This has happened a few times now that the engine would rev to max (red limit) as soon as the engine is turned on, not sure how long as I turned it off straight away. It also auto revved twice whilst driving at around 4k revs which totally freaked me out and had my heart racing especially when I applied the brakes and it would continue to rev to 8k then back to normal after few seconds.

At first I thought the gas was applied but I am certain now there is nothing pressing against it. This happening is rare however probably 4th or 5th time today, I will no longer be driving it now as it seems dangerous and obviously not very healthy on the engine and will be driving my Golf until I have fixed this.

Any thoughts?

Peugeot did recall some 2004 built 206 with fly by wire throttles due to a software bug, no idea if the GTI 180 was included but might be worth asking your local dealer if there are any outstanding recalls on your car.

If its a official safety recall then its always done FOC.

Ive no idea if the GTI 180 was part of this recall but it doesnt hurt to ask a main dealer the question.

No recalls outstanding and nothing about BSI updates regarding this issue. The only one is if you are running version 34, it might cause a immo and failure to start problem.

Strange that, I was expecting a recall for this maybe it wasn't picked up.
Will be in contact with dealer then, maybe the update will fix both this and autolock issue Thumb Up thanks!

The 180 has never been fly by wire though has it?

The 180 was allways fly by wire. It was the 138's that are mainly cable throttle, some of the very last one's had fly by wire though.

My Alfa used to do this, was pretty scarey when the throttle would open as you were overtaking. I am not sure if the Peugeot has a throttle cable but i would get it looked at. Spraying it with WD40 helps temporarily.

mmmm, so could still possibly be the throttle cable getting stuck open.
