I've got a 2.0 hdi and the rear axle needs replacing. I've just bought a gti rear axle but ny mechanic is having doubts about it fitting. Will it fit?
Thanks a lot guys. Martin.

Ah my hdi is 2000. Not sure on abs. Only had a week. He gave me the gti rear discs with it too. Very sure it was a phase 1 gti though. No colour coded strips.

The car isn't at my home. He says if part of the rear hub bolts off it'll fit. If not bad times. Really appreciate your time bud.

It will fit but if it's off a multiplexxed you will need to get new sensors and possibly more to get the abs to work (if you have abs)
You will also need a new handbrake cable definately
Not the end of the world either way

if it's got abs it's a direct change, 4 e18 bolts, 2 11mm brake pipes, 2 11mm hand brake pipes, 2 sensor plugs (iirc)
job done

If you dont have ABS then it wont matter, you wont need to connect it up. What was up with your axle? Do you know this one is any good?

Ah great. So it should fit either way? I dunno I bought the car then a serious knocking occurred. Took my Mechanic and.he said axle was shot to pieces. It seems pretty good. Not that I know what I'm looking for though. Included rear gti discs and hubs for me too. Got front hubs pads and discs - £70. Utter bargain. Discs and pads are in mint nick too.

£70 for a good rear gti beam is cheap, cant see it lasting long. I sold a gti beam that was perfect for £160 which is the price they go for, maybe more.
