hello,
well hit the magic 70k miles just and well my car celebrated in style seemed to mis fire and engine light comes on
done this twice now in last month and the engine light normally goes off after a few hours thought it was just a random mis fire nothing to worry bout
well.... today driving home misfires engine light comes on try to accelerate and no power just slowly accelerating and the exhaust got alot louder
now to stop this i have to either change down a gear and try to accelrate or power through it, this happens in all the gears
i then get power back but only for a few minutes before happens again and have to restart the process
ideas? goes in garage wednesday for cambelt and some other bits

Scan the fault codes FIRST.
Just throwing replacement parts at it in the hope of fixing it is a waste of time & money.
The engine ecu has done its part in helping you to find out whats wrong by showing you there is a fault by displaying the diagnostic warning light & storing the fault code / codes in it memory.
Read the fault codes & you can work out where to look next.

The OP was only looking for ideas. Seeing as his car is going into the garage on Wednesday, I would assume that he would wait to hear his mechanics reccomendation on curing the fault he now has.
I would say that the mechanic would code read the car, and that the OP would not buy parts for the car when it is going into the garage in a couple of days.

have the same on mine DRAPER but only on winter days first thing in the morning or at night on a cold engine start up and is very random, the code showing was P300 multiple mis-fire detected, if you switch the ignition off and start up again i found it drives ok but MIL is still showing until cleared. i changed the coil pack, plugs (bosch),cleaned the map sensor, battery is good but still it popped up with the MIL it's not done it for a couple of months now so i suspect it might be coolant sensor related or crank sensor, i'm going to wait til it happens again then investigate. if you want my old coil pack which is ok let me know.
