Well, I wasnt hanging around today in my GTI as i pulled off the roundabout and onto the dual carrageway. Had a Suzuki Swift Sport ('60 plate) up my chuff so put my foot down. He went into the outside lane and went past with zero effort. Embarassed

This leads me nicely into asking a question; my exhaust has two tiny holes, one near the rear lambda sensor and another at the cat-to-mid pipe join. The car seems a little flat and unresponsive, could these things really be causing a significant loss in torque and power?

Any thoughts?

Yes you'll notice its flat with blowing exhaust, especially if its before the sensor which may alter the readings a bit

The main hole is on the 'boss' where the rear lambda screws in. Bizzarely, there is no noticable loss in fuel consumption?!?

The symptoms are accompanied by a ticking sound under heavy load but am fairly certain it isn't the renowned manifold rattle.

Ticking sound under hard acceleration like it is 'pinking'? I had this in mine had to run it 98 ron it ran a bit far advanced.

Hmmmm, kinda. Ive also noticed in traffic, pull away from stationary in 1st but leave it in 1st (covering short distances in traffic) upto about 3.5-4k rpm then lift off to slow down creates a muffled 'popping' & 'banging' sound, like a race car/bike on over-run???

Im not suprised, Dont they have 134bhp any way? + it's alot newer car than yours also over time yours will have lost power.

Really? Well the pedal doesn't move further than the stop on the bulkhead, maybe yours moved further? Rolling Eyes

A Swift Sport is a nippy car and I accept that age will be a factor but the Swifts have naff-all torque. The car has felt better (when I got it) and am pretty convinced this wouldnt have been the case should the car be fully serviceable.

Is anyone qualified enough to state whether a holed exhaust would reduce power and why?
