I have a Peugeot 206 2001 1.6l, I recently changed the car radio to a non Peugeot branded radio and since the replacement my speedometer hasn't been working.
My car originally had the CD changer in the boot, but since the new radio has one built in and doesn't have the socket for it I have left it unplugged, though I'm not sure if that could have blown anything.
All of the other instruments on the display panel light up and work fine, as do the reverse lights which I believe are on the same fuse as my speed sensor.
I also unplugged and reattached the clock while changing the radio because it hasn't been working for some time, and it now seems to be working fine, so I'm not sure if doing that could have affected it...
Is there another fuse that could affect this? I read somewhere that it may be tied to ABS but my car doesn't have that... hoping I haven't blown something more crucial!
Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated!!

Welcome to the site,
Get a multimeter on all the fuses under the steering column and bonnet!

I just checked all the fuses, they all seem fine... I just took it out for a quick drive to try it out again, I noticed the the needle is trying to move. It flicks up a little and then looks like it gets stuck... I took the front plastic off to see if it was caught and just needed nudging, but it didn't seem to help... any ideas? ^_^;

Hi all
Basically a mate of mines been offered a good deal on a 98 206 however its speedo needs fixing, anyone got a rough idea of the cost?
Cheers |
Depends whats exactly wrong with it & what diagnostic tests have been carried out to pin point the fault.
Could be the cluster
Could be the sensor
Could be a broken wire
Have the drivers door on the safety catch & drive up to 10mph, if the interior light starts flashing it means the speed sensor & wiring are fine & you have a instrument cluster fault.
If the interior light doesnt flash on test then its a speed sensor / wiring issue. |
I found this answer on another post, I just followed the instructions and a light did not come on (the instrument panel) but I did hear a beeping noise, about 3 or 4 beeps... does that mean the instrument cluster has a fault? Does that mean I need a new speedometer or do I have to replace the whole unit?
