Hi bascially just driving back from work and was just bout to go round a bend when the steering locks for a few seconds and management light comes on and the flashes off? Does anyone know what this could be? Scary seeing as its really foggy and wet if I hadnt put my brakes on quick I would of gone into a brickwall! Any ideas please as I will get it checked out
Thanks

Did the steering go solid or stiff?

Sounds more like yourr engine cut out so the steering would have felt heavy, rather than locked, as you'd have momentarily lost your power steering.

the steering went solid any ideas why it would of cut out? the management light has come on before and i took it for a diagnostic test and it was a sensor but it went away do you think it could be that again?

I knew of a fiesta years ago that went hard to steer, almost locking up,and it turned out to be wiring behind the dash clogging up with the steering column.Have you been messing around with speakers or stereo or behind dash and wiring at all lately?

Nope I havent but I got some speakers fitted last year by a car sound place and I have noticed under steering wheel the plastic thing underneath has come loose where they trailed the wire maybe?

It won't be wires 'clogging up with the steering column', get the engine fault codes read as its more likely to be an intermittent fault causing the engine to cut out. Or if its got electric power steering it could be an alternator fault.

All 206 use a engine driven hydraulic pump for the power steering system UNLESS its a FAPTASTIC piece of s**te as they use a electro / hydraulic pump.

Lets start with the basics:
1. What is the fault code?
2. What is the fluid level like?
3. Is there play in the steering system?
4. Anything wrong with the steering system, eg pipes in the way?
5. Steering rack tight to the subframe? (can happen)
Do some basic checks then report back
