I see ECP have a good discount on batterys at the moment. Which one do i need though?! 54 plate GTi.

Bosch s4 powers my v6 engine nicely same battery I used to start my 206 1.4 sport engine before the conversion

had a look on ebay they seam to recomend s3

I got an S3 on mine. Cheap enough. Just make sure you measure your old one and take the measurements to the shop as they sometimes get it wrong.

i ended up having to wedge a block of wood behind mine as its too small for the battery tray

Surely the top clamp would hold it in position?

If its like my clamp, the plastic it bolts into gas snapped. I've replaced mine twice, not particularly over tightened.
