hello guys and girls, looking to buy a 206gti and i have found one... its a 1999 47,000 miles.. cars only had 1 owner.. but im wondering about the cambelt i cant see that it has been changed yet.. the cars going for 1500 quid. Will the cambelt need to be changed ? the tensionar is squeeling abit but WD40 is sprayed it does stop.. so id probably change that for peace of mind and do a service myself. I wonder about the cambelt because its a more costly job which i cant do myself but if it doesnt need doing yet.. then ill probably buy the car !

Budget about £100, maybe a little more for labour to get the cambelt changed.

guy wouldnt knock the price down when i looked at the car today.. but as ive done more research ill go back and say ill pay full price if they either get the work done.. or throw in a cambelt and tensionar.. but as ive read its a convenient time to change the water pump as its common to do both at the same time ?

Makes sense at that age to do both belts, tensioners and the water pump.
Is the car in tidy condition?
At Euro Car Parts using the xmascp25 discount code you can get the timing belt kit, alternator belt and water pump for less than £130.

Had to turn my glasses round to read that. Standard font works fine in the threads.

Is it a private sale or a (reputable) garage? If the latter, what are they offering in addition to the car itself, eg fresh service, 12 months mot, any warranty, etc
Also, what model and specification, that will give us an idea of whether the £1500 is low or high, it sounds about right for a low mileage car though.

Yeah its clean as F***! ok.. some age related marks 1 tiny ding less than the size of a 1p in the passenger side rear quarter. but no big dents marks or scratches after a good wash wax & polish it will be a gleamer, glass is all good condition.. interior is very clean.. as expected like on leathers they get abit cracked but im sure you can use leather restorer so im happy with the car.. just need to barter the price as ive had a valuation for 1095 trade

I have some good knowledge to go back with to get this price down.. Or alternatively they have the work down and i pay full 1500
But either way im sure they wont turn down a deal this time of year !
Work will need to be done
-cambelt change ( parts and labour £270 )
-tensioner.. was squeeling on start so that will need to be changed. AND
timing belt kit, alternator belt and water pump + Service usually, oil air cabin plugs which i can do myself to get it up to a good condition
- No tax - £220 12 months
what angle should i go for this one... explain this cost and say ill only pay 1200 because of this cost. OR suggest they get the work done, and me paying 1500 or provide the parts and me still paying 1500

It's not worth £1500 I fairly sure of that but at this age there's an arguement that you should buy on condition and it might be a better can than say, an 03 plater.
If it's all straight with decent tyres etc then £1500 might be ok if you can get the belt changed. It's your money...

I'd at least want a new cam belt for that money.

Late 138 GTis with the motorised throttle body had traction control. No others did.

if you mean straight by the cars legit it is, i have done all the necessary checks and its clean as a whistle in that respect, but it is in very nice condition.. and its got them old gti alloys.. so tyres isnt really my top priority because ill need 17's for some 180's in good time
